Leather Button Collage

This is my version of the Canadian Dove of Peace.
I have had this teeny tiny Maple Leaf floating around my studio for months. I am very surprised it didn't get accidentally thrown out. I moved it from place to place and yesterday when it appeared again I knew it needed a permanent home.

I have an upholstery button making machine. Machine seems like the wrong word....since it isn't electric. It is a hand operated tool that allows me to create buttons with very thick fabrics. It would usually reside in the home of an upholstery or marine fabric repair shop. I couldn't wait to try it out with leather and I made this one perfect red leather button. Then I had to set the tool aside until there is more time this winter to experiment with it.

The red leather button is the perfect surface for a mini collage. Last night I used E6000 glue and attached these embellishments to the surface. I didn't want to cover up all the leather though....but it was tempting once I started the collage. E6000 is an excellent glue for this project. My embellishments attached quickly and they did not slide off the button as I had feared.

Then it was right back to Christmas.....have a good Thursday!

I think it was fate that it "reappeared." It's charming.
