The Calumet Kid

Ever since I first spied this little guy on a pamphlet I just had to keep looking for more information.  He was the main illustration for a baking powder company.

I love how his little tongue is always off to the side.

I finally tracked down my own copies of the recipe booklets and a vintage tin that used to hold the baking power.  It is such great packaging.

And, I am sure the recipes will come in handy.  Can you imagine the fat content in these donuts?
Deep fried.  MMMMMM.

I have a Calumet Kid Vovelle. It is a cardboard calculator. You move the dial and you can add, multipy, divide and subtract with it and the answer appears in the little boy's tongue. It is so awesome and was distributed in the 1920s by dry good stores. I can only find two references to it online. They have one at Yale University. bboggs47@gmail.com
