Up-Cycling Jewelery

Does this look interesting to you? Hot pink is becoming a staple on my blog.

Yesterday I mentioned finding this old necklace during the studio clean up. I purchased it many years ago in an auction where I "won" 20+ pounds of old jewelery. Not knowing what I would get, it was the first time I risked sending a stranger a big American money order. Its amazing how many times I go into this box and find something I want to use. I never would have worn the coin necklace as is.

Two weeks ago I showed you how I made these Chinese silk brocade buttons. That was a great day. I set aside the hot pink buttons for a rainy day project.

The first thing I did for this project was take off every second group of coins on the necklace. Then I glued a very tall vintage rhinestone to each central coin.

When the rhinestones were set, I attached my pink brocade buttons. The tall rhinestones keep the buttons in place when the necklace is on!

I love my finished necklace! I think I will wear it Christmas day! And, I am proud to be up-cycling!

Wonderful! I still remember my first internet purchase. It was for a big package of handmade and Japanese papers from a place that way closing. I was so afraid it wouldn't work, but it did and I still go back to use what I got so many years ago.

I have two boxes of old jewelry from my Mother and Grandmother. I really need to look through them to see what "finds' I can come up with. Thanks for the idea.
