The Rescue Idea

I think I need to set up a home for unloved and unwanted vintage linens.
I have mentioned this before.
Hand sewn linens are a passion for me. Not that I want to sew any myself.
I just want to rescue and reuse the pieces that might end up in the landfill.
I am talking about linen that someone has painstakingly sewed an image or edge to. They may have been part of a "wedding" collection. Many were sewn and never used. They just lived in various drawers until they either yellowed from age or acquired stains through use. They are often missing members of their family. I often find three napkins. Or a table runner and one napkin. The rest of the group ended up you know where.
It aggravates my Mom to see a handmade quilt or a crocheted blanket in a thrift store. I know what she's thinking; "all that time and love, why didn't the family keep it?"
I know I would.
So today I am opening my Linen Rescue Society.
If you spot one of these unloved fiber creatures feel free to put them in the post to me. I promise to offer them a good home, a bath and a new lease on life.
Here are a few samples of my rescue work this week.
Oh, and a link to some buttons I made too!
The dog and bird were hand sewn by anonymous hands.

These are two of my Poufs (c). They'll be at the One of A Kind Show next month.

I'm with your Mom. Rescue those lovely linens. I have several from my Grandmothers. I keep them but have to admit never use them. I gave some all white ones to our church to use for special occassions. They get regularly used and we have one woman who loves to care for them.
They ones you have shown are precious. Thanks for sharing them.

I love your sweet little pillows, Carmi!! Great idea to rescue these once loved linens. I, too, adore vintage/antique linens that have the tea stained look and all of those wonderful hand sewn elements.
